Lalu Prasad Shaw’s works are embellished with the backdrop of Indian rural lifestyle. Lalu Prasad Shaw was born in 1937, in Bengal and achieved a degree in Fine Arts from the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Kolkata. It has been noticed that Shaw’s works have largely been inspired by the Ajanta Cave Paintings and the Company School of Arts that existed before independence. Shaw’s works depict a holistic approach of elaborating the Bengali culture with couples and Bengali women being the predominant figures. The viewer can smell the essence of the painter’s own experiences and thoughts, in Lalu Prasad Shaw’s paintings. A concrete reason to support this logic would be the well known characteristic of Shaw’s paintings – Correlation of Bengali folks and traditions in a harmonious manner.
Apart from painting Lalu Prasad Shaw also masters the skill of printmaking which he acquired when he was just 32 years old. Few of his works in this field are graphic arts comprising intaglios and lithographs.
